Our Programs

Our Work: Community-Led Health & Opportunity

Phalarope strengthens health systems and expands opportunity in partnership with Indigenous and rural communities. Our work integrates ancestral knowledge, public health science, and local leadership to co-create solutions that are sustainable, culturally grounded, and community-owned.

We collaborate with women, men, youth, elders, traditional midwives, and community leaders to strengthen maternal and child health, expand community care navigation, improve digital and health access, and support economic empowerment and regenerative agriculture. Together, we work to build thriving communities rooted in culture, dignity, and land.

Our work spans three interconnected pillars:
Maternal, Neonatal & Community Health
Economic Empowerment & Regenerative Agriculture
Youth Leadership & Digital Access

We work with:
• Women & girls
• Men & fathers
• Youth & students
• Elders & traditional knowledge holders
• Traditional midwives & community care navigators
• Health workers, Ministries of Health & rural providers

Because when communities lead, families thrive — and systems change

Maternal and Child Health & Care Navigation
Phalarope strengthens maternal, newborn, and family health by working side-by-side with Indigenous and rural communities. We train community care navigators and partner with traditional midwives and health systems to improve early detection, referrals, respectful care, and nutrition support — reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths and building culturally grounded health systems where families thrive.

Community Health Education
We promote community-led health and environmental education rooted in ancestral knowledge and public health science. Our workshops include maternal and newborn health, preventive care, nutrition, emotional wellbeing, and environmental stewardship, strengthening cultural pride and community resilience while honoring women’s and elders’ leadership in nurturing healthy futures.

Youth Learning & Innovation We expand access to science, culture, and environmental learning for Indigenous and rural youth. Through hands-on learning and intergenerational knowledge exchange, students explore public health, environmental protection, regenerative agriculture, and digital literacy, nurturing the next generation of culturally grounded community leaders and innovators.

Community Economic Empower
Phalarope supports women and families in developing sustainable livelihoods through vocational training, micro-enterprise support, cooperative learning, and financial literacy. By advancing economic empowerment rooted in culture and community values, we strengthen family wellbeing and build resilient local economies.

Program Design & Evaluation Support
We partner with governments, cooperatives, community organizations, and universities to co-design, implement, and evaluate culturally grounded programs. Using evidence-based and community-led approaches, we build local capacity and promote equity in maternal and child health, youth leadership, and sustainable development.

Professional Development
Phalarope fosters the next generation of global and community health leaders. Students, interns, and early-career professionals learn alongside Indigenous and rural partners, gaining field-based skills, intercultural competency, and public health experience to drive human-centered and systems-transforming change.

Regenerative Agriculture & Cooperative Resilience

Phalarope strengthens regenerative agriculture and food sovereignty through community-run “living labs” in collaboration with cooperatives like Federación de Cooperativas Agrícolas Regionales de Guatemala (FECOAR, R.L.). We integrate ancestral agricultural practices with agroecology, soil restoration, climate resilience, and cooperative business training — ensuring families and communities grow food systems that nourish land, culture, and future generations.

Youth Advocacy & Leadership
Phalarope invests in youth leadership and advocacy so young people can shape the future of community health, gender equity, and climate resilience. We equip youth to become facilitators, storytellers, and policy voices who uplift their communities and protect their ancestral and ecological futures.

Youth ambassadors from Indigenous, rural, and urban communities across Latin America and beyond participate in policy dialogues, lead digital and in-person forums, and co-design solutions that center dignity, culture, and equity.
